Revival

When God chooses to do sovereign work of revival it seems that regardless of where the church is located, he literally brings the mission field to it’s door in most parts of Kampala there are stories of fresh breathings of God’s power and visitations. I have heard Tetimonies this seasons more than i have ever heard in my life time. And miracles are spreading; i have come to believe when God starts a fire he wants it to spread, genuine revival cannot continue to be localized. God will make sure that it catches on in other places.

Revival has proven to be the greatest need today, we have been praying for the last 15 years in Africa, for our greatest need has never been weapons, or education but revival. Many tried to help us but ended up teaching us their cultures , some wanted us to sing like them to dress like them, to pray in their language to use their beats and we have found out one of the greatest enemies of revival is culture.

And it’s traditions, we have been buried in that for so long that we missed to recognise that there was a lot missing in the church and we will never see revival until we recognise it’s demand. We can sense how much we are far from the new testament church. The basic idea of revival is always the return of something to it’s true nature and purpose ; revival can be seen as that strange and sovereign work of God in which he visits his own people restoring, reanimating and releasing them into fullness of his blessing. Now i believe there is a part for me and you as much as i believe that revival is a sovereign work of God there is a big part for us.

We had neglected for so long God has his part but for all these years we were just waiting comfortably in our comfort. But he says (2chron 7:14) if my people who are called by my name will humble themselves, pray, torn away from their wicked ways and seek my face, if we do the four things the almighty God will do three. If we do our part God will do his part , we can sense a fresh wind blowing over our nation and we believe something is about to happen. The Lord spoke to me a few years ago that forget the former things see I am doing a new thing (Isaiah 43:18-19).

GUIDELINES FOR PREVENTING MISSBEHAVIOUR IN REVIVAL

A. Maintaining a broken Spirit:

1- Having a conviction that left to itself, evil is liable to break out in almost any form in our thought life, words, or actions.
2- Having a daily awareness that the inward part of us is inclined towards rebellion and disobedience against God.
3- Having a conviction we are not infallible but capable of committing the worst of evil imaginable.
4- Admitting we are powerless over the sin within us and apart from God is grace, our life is unmanageable.
5- Not over estimating the infallibility of our perceived strengths of character.
6- Having the knowledge that sooner or later the hour of darkness will come upon you and you will most likely give in.

B. Maintaining a repentant heart in revival.

1- Cultivate the maturity and ability to identify and admit to bad behaviour.
2- Don't ever make excuses for bad behaviour.
3- Have the understanding that whenever we judge another, we may unconsciously betraying to cover our own shame for some sin or evil with us.
4- Be sensitive to our environment of choice and their influences upon our dicision making
5- Cultivate the ability to predict times and seasons when we are liable to fall into misbehaviour, and thus plan accordingly.
6- Having a sober respect towards the reality of spiritual warfare, and the power of evil to over take us.
7- Consistent identification and disposal of "baggage" from the past unresolved relationships unaddressed guilt, untreated pain.
8- Holding things loosely, watching out for greed pride, debt.
9- Resisting the applause that belongs to God alone.
10- Acquiring the habit of internally asking questions such as; what are the conditions inside and around me today that are liable to play havoc with my thinking processes, values, responses and choices?

How to start a revival

Gypsy Smith was once asked how to start a revival. He answered: "Go home, lock yourself in your room, kneel down in the middle of your floor . Draw a chalk mark all around your self and ask God to start the revival inside that chalk mark. When he has answered your prayer, the revival will be on.

Billy Graham on Revival

Evangelism, fine as it is, is not revival. After a signally successful meeting , Billy Graham was asked, "Is this revival?" Graham replied , "No when revival comes i expect to see two things which we have not seen yet. First, a new sense of the holiness of God on the part of Christians; and second , new sense of the sinfulness of sin on the part of Christians."

We might add a third and closely related indication of revival: a new working of the Holy Spirit in the local church. Why? For two big reasons, among others; first, because the word of God calls for it; and second , because the world challenge calls for it.

The Welsh Revival

The world still feels the influence of the great Welsh Revival which flamed across the tiny country of Wales at he beginning of this century. But few remember just how this mighty spiritual movement began:

A Christian endeavor meeting was in progress in a small town in Wales when a timid young Welsh girl arose, she was so nervous that she could utter only one short sentence: "Oh, I do love Jesus!" then she sat down. The Lord used that earnest testimony to fulfil his own divine purpose spiritual fire came down on that young people's meeting , even akin to pentecost. Quickly it spread through that church, then through the little town, and on through the whole of Wales. It's influence was soon felt all around the world.
